These pictures are of
my U-47 kit. It was slightly modified by removing the 'radar' depth
control device and adding a 3rd servo for the front dive vane control. See
below.
These shots were taken at our new canal boat marina in Hinckley. Looks just like St. Nazaire!
I added the 3rd servo, a mini servo, as shown. The bow vane pushrod was made from a R/C aircraft control snake (Sullivan) and connected via a bellcrank installed in the rear hull section. To avoid drilling another hole in the rear pressure vessel end, I used the switch hole for the control rod exit. The radio switching was then done using a waterproof magnetic proximity switch and Velcro to hold the magnet in place. The wire was run through a small hole drilled in the pressure vessel end and glued in place. To dive, the front vanes are set to dive and, with forward power on, (it will dive at half speed) the rear vanes are used like an aircraft elevator with down to get it under and then keeping it just below the surface. Takes a bit of practice but I can still get it stuck in the MUD!!!! |
